Skipper Graham Hughes
We are now into our 4th day and settling in for a great trip. Choosing the
Southly route has caused us some anxiety but we still believe it to be correct to keep us away from the bad weather and in wind, it is a little disconcerting however when the daily position reports show us lying 12th when measured on a direct line to st Lucia on the course steered we believe
we are in the front group of our class The team are great taking max advantage of the watch system , rotating duties and even having a shower every 4th day — today however is the acid test Sully is on cook duty !!!! The weather has so far treated us kindly 20k NE winds and sunshine, today the forecast is for light winds of 10 k and to continue like this for sometime — making the next few days critical for the end result — whoever turns the corner first will win that is from south to west – we are 400 miles from that point ETA approx 3/4 days all for now looking forward to your text messages

Time 1000 UTC November 23 2004
Skipper Graham Hughes, Skipper’s wife Joy Hughes (The real Boss) , David Warburton and Peter O’Sullivan (pseudo Navigator)
Day Two

We have now sailed 260 miles. Sailing 237 degrees south south west. Peter has stated this will keep us in good steady winds. Average 20knots.

However there is not a ARC boat in sight. Though we have VHF contact and can listen in to all the chit chat.
Peter used the Sextant yesterday for one sighting and is in the process of getting another this morning at 12 OÂ’clock UTC. Hope his maths is correct. Christmas in Cape Town?
Was on the morning watch 5am-8am to day and watched a huge orange ball rise out of the sea, another clear and sunny day plenty of sun cream.
We had our first Happy Hour yesterday and Graham managed to spill 3 large Gin and Tonics over the galley. I took over for 3 small G/ts we need to ration the Gin.
David is on cook duty today and we have had Creamed Mushrooms and Bacon for breakfast - Warburton sailing special.
Thanks for the SMS messages keep them coming.
